Hi, guys!
For now, I'm just sitting here, waiting for my post-surgery wounds to heal. I haven't left the house at all, focusing exclusively on writing. It's quite challenging to work nonstop on a grimdark novel where the main character is a Byronic antihero, but I'm really enjoying it. Yesterday, I crossed the halfway point, and now I need to confidently move toward the climax of the book, otherwise it'll become too thick. So right now, I'm thinking about how I can gradually begin to move it all toward completion.
On the one hand, I want to write rich, drawn-out scenes, but on the other, I realize the book is already getting very long. I don't know how many characters I'll end up with, but it's already over 15 author's sheets. I'm slightly dreading how I'll edit it all, because there's so much work to do. There are repeated scenes that need to be better crafted to make them work properly.
Yesterday I wrote a steamy scene for the first time, and it was a truly fascinating experience. Now I'm wondering how quickly my book will be labeled a smut novel. Even if this scene is the only one in the book. And it's essential to the plot. And in fact, I think it will be the only one in the book, because the consequences for the plot were catastrophic.
But it's actually kind of funny that my first such scene turned out wild, with unpredictable consequences. Now I don't know how to top that.
So, I'm having fun here. I'm working on the text and gradually trying to steer it toward the end. But I'm still not entirely clear what to do with the climax, and I need to think carefully about that.
Have a great day, everyone!
