The hoary marmots (Marmota caligata) of BC and Alberta will soon be waking up from a 7-8 month long hibernation! You'll see them running around the boulders of the alpine and sub-alpine meadows. They are very vocal so you'll probably hear them before you see them. They sometimes sound like a small child squealing!
