Travelling along the Icefield Parkway near Lake Louise we were extremely lucky to spot this beautiful Canada Lynx (Lynx canadensis). It was walking up into the trees from the highway. We pulled over and the lynx was sitting under the trees staring straight at us. It gave Ryan the perfect opportunity to capture these photos.
The Lynx is a stunning creature with it's pointy-looking ear tufts and long sideburns. And who wouldn't melt inside when looking at those big floofy feet!
The lynx feeds primarily off snowshoe hare, and when the snowshoe hare population drops so does the lynx population.
It may look like it's only the size of a house cat in the photos, but this lynx was about the size of a medium dog.
Seeing a lynx in the wild was such a special experience and something we wont be forgetting any time soon.
