China has shown off its efforts in dealing with the coronavirus outbreak by releasing footage of 20 patients cheering as they were discharged from a hospital following a full recovery.

The 11-second clip shown by state-run media captures the group of former sufferers celebrating and flashing V-signs while leaving the Jinyintan Hospital in Wuhan, the breeding ground of the epidemic.

On Wednesday, a 23-year-old patient in the province of Shanxi was paraded in front of the camera after becoming the first person to have fought off the virus in his province.

The state-led media effort came as China admitted it was too slow to react to the coronavirus outbreak, which has sparked a global panic and left at least 213 people dead - amid claims that Beijing could be covering up a higher death toll.

Jinyintan Hospital is one of the main facilities which are looking after coronavirus patients in Wuhan, where the virus emerged late last month.

The patients were allowed to leave at 5pm local time today after passing various medical tests, according to Hubei Radio and TV Station.

This is the first time so many patients have recovered on the same day, the station claimed.

A video released by news programme Long Shang Xing shows masked men and women walking out of the hospital building in an excited manner.

The coronavirus has now infected every region of China. Chinese officials have now confirmed more than 9,750 cases, while more than 100 have been recorded outside of nation – taking the toll to more than 9,900.

The province of Hubei, situated bang in the middle of China, remains to be the ground zero of the health crisis.
