Can you listen,
To the tremor of the earth as it shakes the people,
The crack on the wall of the houses your citizens lay to bed,
The silent nights filled with tears and sobbing of the teens,
Who believed so much in the nation of their birth?
Yet the system have failed them beyond print.
The empty promises still pasted on their election posters,
A reminder of how much they have failed us as elected leaders,
Our land have refused to yield fruits like it should,
Because mother earth is soaked with blood of innocent ones,
Screaming for vengeance uncontrollably from underneath,
Can these leaders just listen to these strange sounds for once?
Xenophobic attack by blacks on blacks in a black dominated land,
Yet the government is suddenly silent because they aren’t affected,
Lives and properties lost with innocent ones wailing in agony,
Blood flowing in the street like a stream through the village,
How long will they turn deaf ears to our pains and cries?
But once election is near o’clock, their ears are suddenly fixed.
Can you listen?
Maybe you can have a feel of the suffering and smiling situation,
The toxicity of being black and the mask of regret we have to put on,
The loud sound of bullets piercing the heart of innocent citizens,
Or the loud cry of help as kidnappers whisk away people for sacrifice,
And our crime is just to be born into a country full with deaf leaders.
