My love for agriculture has driven me to engage in subsistence farming to feed my family to gain certain knowledge which I believe later or sooner will develop into commercial farming,I will making post about how I planted my yam,and progress it has been making,im just a peasant farmer as told earlier who is ready to learn.
To be honest peasant farming has not been easy but due to hardwork , things are moving quite well.
Below are the procedures I went through which I thought might be helpful;
After making the heap and making sure I enrich it with water and nutrients I bought,I bought some tubers of yam and then cut it into sizes, and put each in a heap,
make sure the spacing between rows is between 50cm-60cm depending on the size of the farm and plant the sprouted yam into the heap at a depth of 15cm -16 cm, watering at least three times a week,
make sure you go for weeding every month,which is what I'm doing presently
As we all know yam is annual crop which can be harvested once a year,my yam is 7 months on which I believe before November I would be harvesting it ,in between the yam,I also planted melon it also growing fast
I have more plants to harvest and work on but this is where I will be stopping for today.
