I believe each and everyone has reasons for working while studying, some may work for career building, some also work in their parents or relatives workplace just to help them,in situations where home isn't far from school and due to some personal reasons too.
But majorly , students work for financial backing. Not all is born with a silver spoon, thereby some students work in order to sustain themselves financially.
I could remember during my university days, from the start I wasn't working, but when it got to a level (300 level), there was hike in tuition fee ,due to government not being able to pay the school lecturers.

The school had no choice but to increase the tuition fee. it was a 100% increase in tuition (i.e double of the amount previously paid).
I told my parents about it, but I knew within me they wouldn't afford it.
That was what made me started working in an hotel near to School. It was not in any way easy but I had to do it.
How Do I find time to read ?
Well, since it's a two full days on and one full day off, on my off-days ,I go to lectures in the morning where I photocopy all the notes I have missed, after the class I find to go to the library to read, thank God am a quick learner. I grab so easily so quick accimilation wasn't a problem to me.
How I managed the stress
In some cases of impromptu test,I leave work to write and resume work after the test, even though there's a class holding after it.
