Welcome back to this new episode of soundgear, the small corner dedicated to the discovery of new musical instruments.
Per questo episodio ho scelto di esporvi la Roland TR-808, un gioiellino storico nato nel 1980, é stata una delle prime drum machine ad essere programmabile ritmicamente.
Ovviamente é uno strumento completamente analogico che oggi é molto ricercato da amanti e cultori dei primi movimenti di musica elettronica, si ritiene che abbia strutturato le basi per diversi generi musicali, dal pop alla dance.
For this episode I will show you the Roland TR-808, a historic gem born in 1980, it was one of the first drum machines to be rhythmically programmable. Obviously it is a completely analogical instrument that today is much sought after by lovers of old electronic music, it is believed that it has structured the bases for different musical genres, from pop to dance.
Inizialmente però la TR-808 non ebbe successo, infatti venne ritirata dal mercato solo qualche anno dopo il lancio e fu velocemente sostituita dalla sua successiva versione la TR-909.
Oggi viene utilizzata molto da diversi DJ soprattutto quando si tratta di live performance, grazie alle componenti analogiche riesce a regalare dei suoni molto ricchi e originali.
Initially, however, the TR-808 was not successful, in fact it was withdrawn from the market only a few years after its launch and it was quickly replaced by its subsequent version, the TR-909. Today it is used a lot by different DJs especially when it comes to live performances, thanks to the analog components it can give very rich and original sounds.
Passando al lato tecnico la TR-808 é composta da 16 pulsanti che permettono di programmare la base ritmica con 16 diversi suoni percussivi come kick, hat, Charleston ecc...
Inoltre é dotata di diverse knob di varie grandezze grazie alle quali possiamo modificare i parametri dei suoni, impostare il tempo o anche selezionare il ritmo di battuta.
On the technical side, the TR-808 is composed of 16 buttons that allow you to program the rhythmic base with 16 different percussive sounds such as kick, hat, Charleston etc... It is also equipped with various knobs of various sizes thanks to which we can modify the parameters of the sounds, set the tempo or even select the beat rhythm.
Ad oggi la TR-808 originale é difficile da reperire ed il prezzo può aggirarsi intorno ai 4000$, fortunatamente la Roland ha da poco messo in commercio una replica modernizzata dal nome TR-08
Today, the original TR-808 is difficult to find and the price can be around $ 4000, fortunately Roland has recently put on the market a modernized replica called TR-08
