ENGLISH VERSION
This birthday won't be easy to forget. I planned my day around the gym and the celebration, hoping for a sense of well-being and joy, but fate had other plans, since after the celebration, we had to go through this scare.
This year I took the opportunity to bring my healthy cookies, and since I’d made my whole-grain rolls, I brought those too. I didn’t take a picture, but I made some avocado spread—which turned out really delicious—to go with my rolls. Of course, all the girls ate everything up. That’s life, isn’t it? Hehe-
We had a nice time. Of course, we started by moving our bodies, working out with a little dance therapy—me with my two left feet, but I give it my best shot—and then did some weight training so we wouldn’t waste the day.
After that, it was time to share. Others brought snacks—some little empanadas—and I took the opportunity to try one; I didn’t want to overdo it, so I brought my own piece of pancake, which was really good—I just had a tiny taste, hehe.
But I confess that I’m still trying to come to terms with this duality. It happened this morning, as I was training and giving thanks for another year, filled with the adrenaline and joy typical of a birthday. However, that calm turned to chaos when, just a few hours later, the earth shook. It’s hard to find the words to describe how our perspective shifts when we go from celebrating the present to fearing for the future. Today, more than ever, I cherish every second.
They say life can change in an instant, but I never imagined it would be so literal. Yesterday, my birthday went from the joy of training and celebrating to absolute uncertainty in a matter of seconds. It was a day of stark contrasts, where celebration and the earthquake merged into a single day.
Today I went to the gym, and the girls were just as emotional and shocked as I was by everything that had happened. As always, at the end of our workout, we say a prayer to give thanks; however, today’s prayer was more special—we prayed for those who are missing, the injured, the deceased, and the material losses. May God reach out His hand and give them strength, and may this terror not go any further.
I had lost my signal, was cut off from the world, and knew nothing. I never imagined it was so severe, on such a massive scale. When I watched the news—chaos and destruction everywhere, in Caracas, La Guaira, and elsewhere—it was much worse than I’d thought. ☹️
