Before we talk about the principles of Governance. Let us first know what Governance is. Any government has the right to issue laws, decision making. It has control over people and property. How it makes decision, handle matter means a lot to his people. A good Governance must stand out. Free from corruption of any kind. This leadership must be the one that people love and cherish. There are principles that mark true or good Governance but here am going to talk about six principles.
Responsibility
Responsibility is the mark of a good Governance. One who is responsible is ready to action and also answer for it. When it comes to deciding what is needed
government takes control. And never be afraid of what will come out and will not deny anything that comes out from the decisions or actions.
For example, there are some task that Governance is responsible for. Construction of new road. Building of schools. Caring for less privilege in the state. When carrying out this task, it takes whole responsibility of what will come out of it.
In terms of finance it is the responsibility of government to finance all the projects. No half work or uncompleted contract because government failed to finance it. We have seen a lot of abandoned projects in so many states in Nigeria. And the reason some contractors gave was that government stopped financing the work. It is not a good reputation for any one who is on sit.
I want to give an example of what happened in a state close to mine. There was an agreement between government and contractors to construct 2 major roads. People's houses were destroyed without paying them the damage. Shops was destroyed too. The contractors started work but unfortunately, they couldn't finish the work. I mean people in that area suffered erosion like never before when it rains.
And they said a lot of bad things about the governance and the contractors. Good Governance should know what it can do and what it cannot do. This shows responsibility. And when there is challenge or problem because of the decision he has taken. He should be ready to defend it.
Accountability
Before chosen someone to represent a country or a state it should be one who is accountable. His way of life should prove it, that this person can account for everything under his care. Like wise, a good Governance should be accountable for everything that is doing.
For example, each state receive allocation. What the fund is used for Should be made known to the state. And the people will see it that it was used for that purpose. With this, people will build more trust in that leader who is accountable for all his work. But in some cases, it is not done that way. <p People will only hear budget . How the money came in, how much it is and how it is spend will not come into accounting. This has caused serious fight in some states and community. Yes must be yes and no, no in all things.
Awareness
A good Governance Should create awareness for the people from time to time. It could be on health, business and entrepreneurship. In my state, there is awareness on Rape, on Breast cancer, on eye problems, for entrepreneurs. This awareness has improved lives of many.
Let's take the awareness for Breast cancer for example.
After the awareness on breast cancer. "A lady said, if my sister had known this, she wouldn't have die of breast cancer" You know what that means. Another one said, I am no longer afraid of Breast cancer from what I have learned today. Breast cancer can be prevented .
Creating awareness on health challenges, how to manage them, how to treat and prevent it is what good Government should provide.
Impartiality
This is another important part on governance. partiality is in everything and in everyone. It takes humility, responsibility and accountability to remain impartial. Some people fail in an interview because they are not from that state or they do not speak the same language.
I know of a company that the owner fo not employ anyone that is not from his community. So if you must do well in leadership, you must not be partial. Your justice should be for all not for some people. In turn there will be peace among all no matter their tribes.
Transparency
Transparency is a good principles of a good Governance. But is is very rare this time around to be transparent or for people to believe that everything is transparent. That is where Blockchain comes in so that everything will be decentralized. Transparency has to do with transactions and voting. If they use this method, everything will be transparent. As you know, Blockchain stores all the data and nod nothing will be missed. The number of year or number of records will be easy to trace block by block.
Integrity
Intergrity Simply means honesty. An honesty man will be transparent. This integrity affects all the principles of a good Governance. Someone who can gain trust nationally and international. Whenever our government meet this quality, their will be no crisis again. There must be digital Way of collecting money and spending money. This is important so that it will be recorded.
In some offices, not all money is paid to the right account. Some table will tell you to bring cash that they know how to settle it. This shows that, there is no integrity there. When the head in authority is honest, it will be easy for followers to be honest.
In al, with this 6 Principles outlined here, people under such governance will not have to complain about, injustice, insecurity, partiality , dishonesty and the rest.
In all, good Governance should be strong leadership. Not just in government but in all. In business, in leading an organization. Good Governance is required to run a successful business. It is not to be neglected by anyone
