God’s gift of grace is so valuable that it is vital we never lose it, yet the Bible shows that it is possible to fall from grace!
How can one who received God’s gift of grace ever lose it? Many have heard the statement “once saved, always saved,” The Bible reveals that one can fall from grace.
What is grace?
Grace is the unmerited, loving favor and graciousness of the lord. It is an important aspect of God’s character and nature, abounding and overflowing outwardly in acts of mercy, compassion and liberal giving.
As a free gift, God bestows His grace upon us. We receive God’s gift of grace through faith in Jesus Christ’s sacrifice. Notice Romans 3:24: “Being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.” If we did not receive that grace, we would die in our sins.
Let's look at the story of Lucifer and how he fell from grace.
there was war in heaven, Lucifer and the watchers against Michael and his angels, the war raged for some time then Michael won over the once mighty angel Lucifer and he and his angels were sent down from heaven.
Who would have thought that the most beautiful of angels with the highest honor among them with the power to move GOD, Would stray from fulfilling his duty of pleasing the Lord with his music to desiring the praise, adoration and the worship of his master.
How does an angel who had it all seek more to the point he connived with his fellow angels to overthrow his maker and establish himself as the new god.
Most of mankind is just like Lucifer blinded by pride and lust for power willing to bite the hand that feeds them for a bigger slice of bread, Just like Esau Willing to sell their future to satisfy their immediate want and needs with little to no regard to consequences of their action.
Notice who receives God’s grace: “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble” (James 4:6).Those who are humble, who turn from their sins and who have faith in the sacrifice of Jesus Christ have access to God’s gift of grace.
Reason for falling from grace
The apostle Paul noted the following in Galatians 5:4: “You have become estranged from Christ, you who attempt to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace.”
And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.
(1 Corinthians 9:25-27).
Sometimes you could get back to grace if you realize fast enough just like the prodigal son who went to his father demanding his inheritance and lost it all, but was able to come back to his father and meet him in open hands and was restored back to his initial Grace
