Calling spending "investment" does not make it strategic. If the chain is near the haircut, hitting all-time lows, stablecoin depeged and bleeding confidence then funding is only justified if it can show why it protects Hive now or creates demand now. Otherwise it is just DHF spending.

You yourself proposed cutting. Cut two, keep one you said yourself and I am saying roughly the same but taking the same logic further because the situation is not normal anymore, but I know you can support that because you yourself need funding if it is true what you said yourself that you work full time on Hive only.

Near the haircut, "cut everything non-essential" is not lack of strategy, it is a strategy, a plan, stop the bleeding first then rebuild what can prove it deserves to exist. It may be the only plan because when eveything is worthless it will be the only reality, and we are racing towards it though some projects reduced their pace.

On HiveFest, you are putting words in my mouth. I did not say it is shit and I did not say that nothing matters. I said the opposite: @roelandp made the most honest pre-proposal post I have seen, HiveFest has value, it would help morale, and I personally wanted to attend because I live in Spain. I said all those things that are the opposite of calling it shit or worthless.

My position is not “HiveFest is shit”. My position is “HiveFest can be good and still be unaffordable right now”. Value and affordability are not the same thing. That is precisely what I said and proceed to share how I think it is valuable to me and to other hiveans, you are putting words in mouths that did not say it because no one called it shit.

A few days ago @acidyo said some of my wording could be offensive. I answered that if someone is offended, they should step out publicly and say exactly what offended them and why. So I will apply the same standard here: this offended me, you have offended me because you grouped the “cut everything” side, which includes me, with people supposedly saying “it is shit, everything is shit, nothing matters”. That is not what I said, that is not anyone said, it is particularly offensive because it is the opposite of what I said. You have offended me by saying saying something no one said. You have offended me because I said exactly the opposite and I am in the group of people you accuse of saying something that was not said.

And no, hard work is not magic. Dedication is not magic. Great ideas are not magic. People dedicate their lives to wrong ideas all the time. Good work can lead nowhere due to circumstances beyond our control. Great ideas die because they lack timing, liquidity, distribution, capital or demand. I am from Brazil and I have seen brilliant people and brilliant startups fail because “good idea + hard work” was not enough, it commonly is not enough in my country and it commonly is not enough on the web. You live in a dreamland because of course you are financed by taxes paid by us all. Congratulations on the freechain movie by the way.

Of course a DHF-funded person prefers a world where work, dedication and ideas are enough to justify funding. That standard benefits the funded side. But it was not enough in good times, and it is absolutely not enough near the haircut.

You grew on Hive during the times where we had the wrong ideas and we made bad choices that benefitted many people, you being one of them. Of course you are in the conservative or even reactionary side of Hive while lots of people are claiming for change. I do not know how you see yourself, but you are looking like a lord that your name implies, that is, the side that will try all it can to keep its privileges. It is not malfeasance but damn does it look close to it.

Furthermore, a real plan has an escape hatch. If Hive funding stops, who can keep building? Who has outside income? Who can keep infrastructure alive without selling into the market? Who can contribute even if the DHF goes to zero? Who can keep buying? Usually people with off-chain jobs. Usually hobbyist. In your comment you seemed to diminish the important of hobbyists

I beg to differ. You do not take it seriously. I take it seriously as I am using my off-chain income to buy more HIVE, that is more skin in the game than you can claim to have if it is true that Hive is your main job. You get paid by Hive, I pay Hive, I have skin in the game, getting paid is not having skin in the game, investing scarce money made outside of the game is having skin in the game.

At this point hobbyists are the only ones taking this chain seriously enough to have a plan B, a scape hatch and an income to keep things going even if it all goes to zero.

That is resilience.

“Helpful” in a crisis is not whoever asks the chain to keep paying them. Helpful is whoever can keep Hive alive when the chain can no longer pay.
