hello!! smeetians
Loneliness is not being alone, it’s not a situation where no one is around; loneliness is when in the midst of many people you still feel very much alone. Loneliness is a consequence of lack of connection. When no one around connects with you emotionally and psychologically, you feel lonely. If loneliness is just about being alone, it can never occur on a planet of 7 billion people. Loneliness is simply disconnection from people that matter in your life.
As creatures that are social in nature, our joy, happiness and fulfilment most often come from our relationships. When we have very exciting and happy relationships with our parents, siblings, friends, colleagues, neighbours, spouses and loved ones, we feel good and normal. However when we are having relationship problems with close friends, associates, our spouses, lovers and family, we are mostly depressed and unhappy. Hence, most of us live our lives and make choices to gain and retain the interest, approval, love and attention of people we value, want and desire.
Nearly all our pursuits in life are inspired by the desire to gain and retain the approval, praise and commendation of others. We want to be successful, we want to be very rich; we want to be very educated; we want to look good and dress fancy all in a bid to retain the approval and attention of the people we love.
Why do we crave so much for company, companionship, attention and approval? This is basically because of our insecure nature as human beings. We feel vulnerable when alone, we feel exposed and defenceless. We feel we can easily fall prey of dangerous people and predators when alone, we believe there is safety in numbers. So we love to flock with others.
Secondly we are afraid of the truth about who we are. As humans, we all have weaknesses. We have some nasty behaviours, nasty habits, nasty tendencies and weaknesses that make us feel bad, weak, embarrassed and inadequate. Despite all these, we want unconditional acceptance, hence we prefer to hide these tendencies not just from other people but even from our very own self and the best way we do this is to seek positive opinions and approval about ourselves from others.
Each time we feel inadequate, inferior, unworthy and substandard, we love to seek positive approvals from others to mitigate this awful feeling of unworthiness. We want them to comfort us, say nice things about us and make us believe we are not that bad.
Many of us like to hide our weaknesses and dangerous tendencies under popular opinion and approval of the people in our lives. People and associations that make us feel good and safe have become our hiding place from our weak, inferior and dangerous selves. And we do our very best not to let them see this ugly side of us. We hide our bad side in the companionship.
However, nature is more powerful than our natural strengths, so no matter how long we try to cover up our weaknesses and bad sides, it escapes and we eventually get exposed and embarrassed. The people in our lives become disappointed and unhappy with us, we then feel bad and feel rejected.
These days, a popular method of rejecting correction, reprove and reprimand is the “though shall not judge” mentality and phrase. “Don’t judge me, don’t judge me” is the popular phrase used in covering up bad attitudes, awful behaviours and habits. “Don’t judge me” is now very popular with people who want to remain bad, hate correction and are not ready to become better in their ways.
When you hate correction, when you’re insecure about your weaknesses, when you’re unwilling to grow in character and you fight people who attempt to correct you; it’s just a matter of time you will become very lonely. All the people you’ve asked not to judge you will much sooner than later walk out of your life.
And I assure you all those fake friends cheering you on today and allowing you get away with your bad behaviours will one day walk away from you as well when you also hurt them or they also become tired of your bad habits. Your best friends are those that tell you the truth to your face even if it hurts you.
The lack of will to take correction, the unwillingness to change and rejection of responsibility is the expressway to isolation.
