Such an inspiring story.First, I learned that I should be contented with what I have. From the story,if Maria and her husband had known that greed and lack of contentment will make them more poorer,leaving them homeless,they wouldn't have borrowed the necklace (which was less worth the golden necklace they bought to replace the former one) from her friend,Mrs Albert.

Secondly,I learned that I should have a positive attitude when receiving gifts from people because ATTITUDE is everything. Just like in the story Maria wasn't happy when she opened the large envelope that her husband gave to her.It contained an invitation to a dinner party instead she complained about everything.
