"...Build Your House on the Rock..."
Why is it articulated as a command to take heed of? Why is it incumbent to do so?
The God who conveyed such instruction knows the entirety of life. Mind you. He is the Rock the only Rock who is worth our trust and confidence. So, as He said it, then let it be done. All He wants us to do is to steadfastly stand. Be unshakeable in our daily walk with Him. It is a command that entails His unfailing love to humanity. He cares SO much, to make and take time to make mention of His command to us – His chosen sons and daughters. Let me put it this way. He knows for sure that we can never stand on our own – never will that be possible. The oppositions and temptations are real, never can anyone stand on his or own strength. Without any shadow of a doubt, we need the Rock to keep us standing.
Why is it absolutely necessary to build our house on the Rock? To anticipate struggles and battles along the journey appeals a builder to prepare for it. I doubt if a person who takes Christianity for granted put great effort, make time, exert energy and resources to build a house on the Rock. A lasting relationship takes time when intimacy is expected. Building our house on the Rock is a relationship meant to be nurtured.
We don't play the Word of God. I believe that we are summoned to handle it with dedication - undivided heart to fight the good fight of faith. To win the battle worth fighting for. Additionally, this command is not just meant to be heard but put on the table to reflect upon and for sure to be put into action. It calls us, professing “Christians” to stop playing around the church, rather perceives things through the lenses of the Father. No longer enslaved and blinded by the enemy or one’s own comfort and selfish desire.
There is a verse in the Bible that I don’t want to speak to myself.“you will face trials of many kinds…” I don’t know about you, but for me, I don’t want this. (Like a child talking...) However, there is a promise just after this statement so long as I build my house on the Rock. He added, “But take heart! I have overcome the world.”: This is more than enough reason for us to take heed of His command. Isn’t it?
Speaking of building our house on the Rock. A colleague of mine from South Africa told me that their houses are built to withstand calamities. It made me think that if “we” think this way in the physical world, why don’t we mind more about the spiritual arena?
Did it even cross our mind?
Thanks for reading and God bless you! ^^
