I notice that birds like to stay on the very tip-top of the tree. This black chinned sparrow did just that on a very hot day. I can see he was gasping for air.
I always wonder what the birds were thinking, and looking for when they perched at the very top like this sparrow. I know it gives them vantage point to see over everything from below.
In this picture, you can see he was open his mouth as if to try catching some cool air! He does this constantly while he was up at the top, then few minutes later, he went in hiding inside the tree.
