In the united States the politicians swear an oath not to the people but to the Constitution.

"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of (Insert position here) of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States"

The problem is no one understands the constitution. The citizenry have been dumbed down and are only interested in stimulating the primal instinct. They don't know if the law is being broken or know how, when they have a right to stand up. The supreme court ruled that if they don't know their rights they don't have them. That is why the law and constitution are not taught. That is why there is no effort to teach a uniform and simple knowledge, problem solving skills.
