Separating Mixtures : Our First Laboratory Activity in General Chemistry 1
Hello, my dearest hivers! How's everything going so far? I hope you're all doing good. It's me again 
For today's blog, I'm going to share with you our first laboratory activity in General Chemistry 1 which is all about separating mixtures. Our teacher told us that we're going to have laboratory activity. Everyone's excited and of course me too because the last time we had laboratory activity was when we're in Grade 11 and we can't wait for it. Our teacher gave as instructions of what to do when we will be in the laboratory. Also, she gave us a laboratory activity sheet for us to answer the questions after the activity.
In this process, as you can see we separated the seawater through the use of filter paper, funnel, and erlenmeyer flask. This process requires plenty amount of time to separate since we use filter paper as the filter.
After the process of filtration, we then headed to evaporation. In this process, we used evaporating dish, tripod, gauze mat, and heat. This process also takes time to evaporate the water since our main goal here is to make the water into salt crystals.
We cut the paper into three strips with the measurement given. We put three ink colors on the three paper strips which are blue, red, and black. In this process, it also takes time since we will be observing if the colors will produced another color or it will stay the same. As you can see, the the paper strip with blue color produced purple, the black produced a little grayish or yellowish ( I don't know if you could also see), and the red produced yellow and orange. I enjoyed this part of the activity since I love how the colors changed and also it's my first time to do this kind of process.
Overall, this activity was informational yet fun at the same time. We were not just learning here but we also enjoyed this activity. I hope that this won't be the last time.
