They say he is the Father of the Forests and, without him, the Splinterlands would be a barren and desolate place.
Hello Splinterlands Community!
It has been a while since Ancient Redwood stats has been announced but there are still no significant movement in the Riftwatcher sales. It might be because the community take the advantage of the year end sale of Chaos Legion, it might be the community is waiting for a better deal with Riftwatcher. Who knows?
As of the moment we are still 81.37% or needs 93,163 Riftwatcher pack before we can unlock this charaacter.
In this post, let's try to look the stats and the possibilities Ancient Redwood can offer in the Earth Splinter.
For those who are new to my post, I usually post information which is related in the Silver League Modern Format.
Legend has it that the Ancient Redwood began his life aeons ago as the only nut to fall from the Elder Tree and take root beneath its massive canopy of leaves and branches. His name has been lost to memory, even to himself.
They say he is the Father of the Forests and, without him, the Splinterlands would be a barren and desolate place.
They say he created the first treefolk by breaking off his own limbs and breathing life into his children.
They say he exhaled the first motes of earthen mana into the world.
They say that, during the Splintering, he alone held together the continent of Anumun and is why it did not fracture into a thousand pieces or sink into the sea.
They say his slumber lasts for generations, and when he awakens, you and your children's children's children will have been long forgotten.
They say he is a friend to the fey, a guardian of the natural order of things, and lo, pity to those who threaten that which he holds dear.
They say that, when the Chaos Legion came and swept across Anumun, there came a great stirring. The Ancient Redwood had awoken, and he was not pleased.
But these are only legends.
Ancient Redwood is the second airdrop card from the Riftwatcher Mini set in a legendary rarity with 11 mana cost.
Looking at the stats, Ancient Redwood is a very powerful range monster dealing a 5 to 6 range damage, a very slow card with 1 speed and a very high health ranging from 9 to 11. With the slow speed, this card is a great addition to the Earth Splinter with having a lot of slow speed monsters which most likely an option in the reverse speed ruleset.
Looking at the abilities, first we have the True Strike which is a very useful ability. In any certain condition such as battling flying monsters, monsters with dodge ability or even a big difference of speed, Ancient Redwood won't miss its target.
Then we have the reflection shield which is great in dealing blast damage as well as return fire. Finally a monster from the earth splinter have this ability.
The above 2 abilities are the one available at the silver league. Moving on to the 3rd ability is the newly introduce Fury which gives a double damage to the taunt enemies. One main point for this is that this card is a Agor Longtail and Coeurl Lurker killer but is weak against Mycelic Slipspawn and Night Ghoul due to their Forcefield ability which greatly affect Ancient Redwood attack.
Lastly, the piercing ability which is the best addition ability. Given that this card deals a powerful range damage, it will be useless for a armored monsters. Thanks to the help of piercing ability wherein the excess damage to the armor will be dealt directly to the health.
In terms of summoners, Fernheart would be the best summoner to fully utilize Ancient Redwood but I would also like to see Ancient Redwood with Llama doing the last stand but only if there is a close range ruleset for it to attack in the frontline.
| Fernheart is the best summoner for Ancient Redwood due to the fact that Fernheart can be able to provide close range blessing and additional health to Ancient Redwood. |
In terms of monsters, I don't see any direct synergy for Ancient Redwood but instead I'll put some monsters that I think that Ancient Redwood is very powerful or weak.
| With the fury ability, a high range damage and piercing of Ancient Redwood could land a massive of 12 damage towards Agor Longtail destroying its armor and reducing its health to 8 for the first attack. A very powerful card that can destroyed by Ancient Redwood. The Flying ability won't stand a chance against true strike. | |
| Another powerful card that can be destroyed by Ancient Redwood instantly. The combination of Fury, True Strike and high range attack would devastate Coeurl Lurker for a massive of 12 damage. The dodge ability won't stand a chance against true strike. | |
| If Ancient Redwood can eliminate easily Agor Longtail and Coeurl Lurker, Mycelic Slipspawn is the otherway around due to the forcefield ability. Ancient Redwood with a high damage could only deal 2 range damage. | |
| Night Ghoul is another monster that can withstand the powerful Ancient Redwood but this is only applicable starting from Gold League as the forcefield ability will be only available starting ★6. | |
| There are quite other monsters that is also have a forcefield ability such as Oshannus and Runemancer Atuat but these two monsters don't have taunt ability which is much painful to Ancient Redwood due to 1 damage only. |
There are quite ruleset that I think is applicable with Ancient Redwood. But the main thing is that Ancient Redwood is a high mana cost which is why this card could only be use in high mana battle.
Back to Basic - Without any abilities involve, this card is pretty strong for this ruleset dealing a heavy range damage
Close Range - As I have mentioned, Fernheart could give this benefit but with this ruleset I would love to see Ancient Redwood in a last stand with Llama.
Earthquake - With a high health, Ancient Redwood can survive the battle longer
Explosive Weaponry - With the reflection shield ability, Ancient Redwood can be position second to the last besides a taunt monster (Mycelic Slipspawn, Coeurl Lurker or Agor Longtail) in the last position to absorb the blast damage.
Fire & Regret - With this ruleset, your opponent would think that you won't use a range monster because of the return fire but with reflection shield ability, Ancient Redwood is unaffected.
Fog of War - One of the best ruleset I think Ancient Redwood can be use to further utilize its high damage by placing in the last position but I would say the sneak attack won't be much of a problem as well because Ancient Redwood do have a high health.
Keep Your Distance - Probably Ancient Redwood is another option for a very high range damage.
Reverse Speed - The best ruleset since Ancient Redwood speed is only 1.
In my opinion, Ancient Redwood is a very powerful legendary monster which I think would help Earth Splinter. The stats it have is very powerful especially dealing against taunt monsters such as Lurker and Agor.
With a high mana cost, Ancient Redwood is only applicable in high mana battle.
The community needs to reach 1M Riftwatcher packs sold at the store to unlock this card. For every 225 packs you are guaranteed to get this card during the airdrop.
The current cost of the pack is $5 worth of SPS + 1 voucher. This will give you 1 airdrop point and 1 Riftwatcher pack. Buying minimum of 100 packs will give you a 10% bonus pack, 500 for 15% and 2000 for 20%.
I hope since that Chaos Legion bulk buy is already ended, there would be interesting deal in the RW in the near future.
Thank you for reading! See you in my next post.
