Hello sports fans, last night concluded the round of 16 of the Uefa Champions League. All teams performed well but only the best can make it through. It was an entertaining two nights of football for me and I enjoyed every beat of it. All the matches played were entertaining especially Manchester United vs Atletico Madrid.
It all started on Tuesday night, Ajax was knocked out by Benfica. Both sides played a draw in the first leg and scored two goals each. Darwin Nunez scored the only goal in the second leg at the 77th minute, giving his team a one-goal lead on aggregate against Ajax. Time wasn't on Ajax's side and they failed to level the scoreline. Benfica won 3-2 on aggregate and are headed to the quarter-finals.
The second match on Tuesday night was Manchester United vs Atletico Madrid. In my last post I stated that with the way Ronaldo played against Spurs, if he should bring that same energy against Atletico, ManU will not get knocked out in the round of sixteen. Unfortunately for United Atletico got a goal which was scored by Ronan Lodi in the 41st minute. Atletico immediately started defending all through the match and made sure not to give Ronaldo any chance to take a shot, Atletico won by 2-1 on aggregate. The Devils are not sure of a spot in the UCL next season, this would be the first time in sixteen years Ronaldo played a whole season without winning a trophy.
Juventus goat knocked out of the round of sixteen by Villarreal last night. The Spanish club won by 3 goals to nil and at the old lady stadium. Gerard Moreno scored the first goal, Pau Torres scored the second and Danjuma scored the last goal of the match. Juventus gave out two penalties which the away side made no mistake and scored both penalties. Villarreal reaching their first quarter-final in the UCL since 2008, hope they seize this opportunity and make the most of it. Looking forward to seeing their opponent in the quarter-final.
The last match of the night was between Lille and Chelsea. With all the bad things happening to Chelsea the players are still focused and are competing even harder. The Blues beat last season's Ligue 1 winners by two goals to one and four goals to one on aggregate. Pulisic and Azipillicueta came through for the blue after Lille led by a goal. And that concludes the UCL round of sixteen, hopefully, by today a draw will be held to set the quality teams up for the quarter-final.
So, guys that will be all, Barcelona are up against Galatasaray for the second leg of the Europa League today, I have faith the team will succeed.
