Power has been in the human race for a long time. It has influenced countries, individuals and so on. Let's take a look at Power and its impact on society.
DEFINITION OF POWER
“Power is the possession of control, the capacity or ability to influence and direct the way an event, people act or think in a specific way.” source google.
Power is also derived from an important position a specific individual holds in an organisation, society or political activities. The individual can direct the organisation resources in a way for them to achieve a certain goal.
POWER OF MONEY
"Money is a medium of exchange. It is used as a means of payment for goods and services and repayment of debts". source google. Money is one of the ways of getting power. If a person has more money than most people in a particular community or society, that individual is likely to influence the lives of those people, either good or bad.
Let's take a look at politics in Nigeria. When the time for the elections begins the political elites spend billions during the campaign of various opposition parties. They select the wealthy and most influential individuals to represent the party, some parties use the influence of money to buy votes from poor people.
The power of money also influences education. In my country, the average person finds it hard to get into a good school, unlike their wealthy counterparts. Even when in school the wealthy kids are less concerned about studies because they do not believe in knowledge but the power of money.
The average student on the other hand has to work more to get good grades in school. Even that doesn't guarantee a better life in this part of the world. What is guaranteed is the power and influence in society that money can get you.
Unchecked power has led to corruption and inequality in society. It takes discipline to manage power. We should all try to use our position and influence for good, to make the world a better place. It starts with you and me doing the right thing with the power we have.
