1 Kings 19:19 "So he departed thence, and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen before him, and he with the twelfth: and Elijah passed by him, and cast his mantle upon him. 19:20 And he left the oxen, and ran after Elijah, and said, Let me, I pray thee, kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow thee. And he said unto him, Go back again: for what have I done to thee?"
As soon as Elijah dropped the mantle, he hurried away Elisha had to run to catch up with him. When Elisha got to Elijah, rather than explain why he had thrown his mantle on Elisha, Elijah said; "what have I to do with you?" One would have expected that Elisha would have been angry, or at best give Elijah his mantle back and walk away, but Elisha was humble and was sensitive enough to know that the invitation coming from whoever sent Elijah, was an invitation to something higher. God was saying to him; "though you are a good farmer,how about spilling Jordan into two? You know about planting and harvesting but how about about speaking a word to a dried up womb and see it bring fourth a baby boy? What about multiplying a pot of oil to fill many empty vessels?" God is saying "you know about dead seeds coming back to life l, but how about dead bones living again?" How do you compare the two? God was saying "though you are very successful, you are nowhere close to where you ought to be come closer."
