The race is not to the swift
It is not the one who runs fastest that wins the race. Psalm 20:7-8 clearly says that those who trust in chariots and horses will fall. This simply means that those who focus on their strength and wisdom will fail eventually. In 1kings 18:46, the Bible says that because the hand of the lord was on Elijah, he outran the king who ride in his royal chariot over a long distance. It is the one in whose life the river of living water flows that will finish the race and outrun his enemies.
The battle is not to the Strong
The one who wins the battle is not necessarily the strongest, in 1 Samuel 17:44-50, if strength was to determine the winner in a battle, Goliath would have defeated David several times over. It was obviously not David that won the battle that day, it was the lord of hosts who did. David was just humble and dependent on God enough to be used for that victory. If anyone sees a fly coming towards his face, he dodges without even thinking about it. Goliath on the other hand, saw the stone coming and could not dodge because two giant hands held his firmly in place for the stone. David had no sword in his hands, yet he had prophesied that he would cut off the head of Goliath. Goliath provided the weapon. When Almighty God is on tour side, he forces your enemies to fall into their own trap

Bread is not to the wise
2 kings 7 tells us the story of Elisha prophesying at a time of intense famine in Samaria. He said that in less than twenty four hours, food would be so plenty that no one would be buying. The bible says the counsellor of the king said that even if God were to make windows in Heaven, Elisha's prophecy could not come to pass. The counsellor was talking from his intelligence and academic point of view. No matter how clever you are, wisdom can not put bread on your table if God does not provide it. Moreover, it is one thing to have bread to ear, and its another thing to be able to eat it.
Favour is not to the man of skill
Do not look down on anyone. Promotion comes only from God, you are where you are by God's grace alone. 1 Samuel 2:7-8 makes it clear that God can promote and He can also demote:
"The LORD maketh poor, and maketh rich: he bringeth low, and lifteth up. 2:8 He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth up the beggar from the dunghill, to set them among princes, and to make them inherit the throne of glory: for the pillars of the earth are the LORD's, and he hath set the world upon them"
In 1 Samuel 22:1-2, David went to dwell in the cave of Adullam and those who had problems ~ those who were I. Debt and in distress, vagabonds, gathered themselves to him. He became a captain over them. I. 2 Samuel 21:15-17, when David grew faint in battle, it was one of the vagabonds of yesteryears that came to his rescue. Only God knows tomorrow
