Staying in Thailand as a foreigner sounds scary, although many say that it is a more modernized and less corrupt version of the Philippines. I also remember a few news reports where taxi drivers charged foreigners higher rates even when the destination was nearby. It works the same with tricycle drivers, who will charge you more even if the place is within walking distance. Maybe it's just more rampant if you’re not familiar with the area and they're calling it "strategy" lol. In the Philippines, the justice system is obviously rigged. Police often stay silent about politicians involved in issues, especially when money is handed to them.
