Character

There is a character somewhere, blazing with the light of infinite possibilities. Well, there are a few of them, at least a bookful, but likely far more. In this case, however, we're just searching for the one.

There would have to be some sort of magic system to make this character even remotely interesting, after all, who wants to go through the effort of giving their character a personality? Who would want one of those?

Bu to be fair, tossing in magic awakens just a drop of our inner child, just enough to excite and amaze. Hence, magic. But what sort of magic? Simple elemental magic would be boring, unless it's done well and perhaps the character is given a personality, and we're really trying to avoid _that. _(The same seems to be true of most basic magic systems.) So where to now?

Well. Let's make things interesting. Let's say this character - let's call him male, because I'm getting really tired of avoiding pronouns and I'm too lazy to actually debate about his sex. (His gender, you perverts, not his... never mind.) Anyways. Let's just say this character has the ability to summon demons, because you know, who doesn't want the ability to summon demons? ...

Moving on. The next questions we have to consider are whether he's old, young, neither, both (Eternally young yet ancient beyond human comprehension?) or something else entirely. Is he male or... nope, already covered that. Is he a warrior, a pacifist, an apathist. (what – you don't make up your own words when the situation requires? It means he's apathetic to the world, doesn't really care what happens. It can be a bit of fun coming up with a backstory to explain that.)

We would also have to debate how common these powers would be – does almost everyone have them? No, that would be boring. But we can't exactly make him unique… ok, so it's a rare form of power, but hardly unheard of. Next – are there other types of magics around, other forms of powers? Hmm. Ok, let's give them to other people, but not give everyone powers, that would create a different sort of setting.

Ok, so let's make this fellow a youngish pacifist. So, what's he going to use these summoning powers for? Let's make him a healer, someone who just wants to fix all the evil and harm in the world, but without causing more harm of his own. He's an… innocent soul of sorts, one who gives everyone the benefit of the doubt, even demons commonly believed to be evil. He'll summon these demons to heal them from their wounds, brought about by their own internal power struggles. Yes, demons have their own sort of politics. They're people too, you know.

Or not. So, what else? We could make his parents dead and him an orphan, that usually works instead of a personality (remember, we're trying to avoid creating one), but I think we'll skip that idea and instead make a massive conflict between him and his parents. Again, works in place of actually giving him a personality. Let's say… they want him to be a warrior, a demon summoning commander of armies, but he just wants to be left alone to heal who and what he can.

This should work. Let's give him a decent physique, this way we can say that he could have been a good warrior had he chosen to work on that. So… let's say his parents, frustrated with his refusals to their demands, send him to a school, an academy of sorts. This academy would need to be mostly focused on war-training, but would have to have other possibilities – otherwise he might simply run away.

And there we have it. A random idea for a character with its own sort of potential - though I don't understand his purpose any more than you do.

By the way, we haven't said we this whole time to indicate that we have schizophrenia, we have much more effective ways of telling you that we're crazy.
