After exploring the land of Ha Giang in the Northeast region of Vietnam with towering limestone mountains, with the North Pole landmark, with Nho Que river and buckwheat flower field in the previous article, today, follow me back to the west, explore the Northwest of Viet Nam with the majestic beauty that nature has bestowed.
The place I would like to introduce to you is Y Ty, a wonderful place to watch the "golden season" of ripe rice on terraced fields.
Y Ty is a poor commune in Bat Xat district, Lao Cai province, about 70km from Sapa town, but it takes you 3-4 hours to move because the road is quite difficult to go because of damage and zigzag. Y Ty commune is at an altitude of over 2000m above sea level, leaning against the Nhiu Co San mountain range, a very good name according to the language of the H'Mong ethnic group - one of the ethnic minorities living here. And my trip this time is to celebrate my 26th birthday, a birthday full of exciting experiences and discovering beautiful places to perfection.
From Ha Noi, if you want to go to Y Ty by the nearest road, you have to go through btwo legendary passes, two of the "four great peaks" of the Northwest, Khau Pha, and O Quy Ho passes. Khau Pha pass has a length of about 30km, belongs to Yen Bai province, and is a pass between Van Chan and Mu Cang Chai districts. And O Quy Ho is a pass with a length of 50 km, the longest pass in Viet Nam, in which 2/3 of the distance is in Tam Duong district, Lai Chau province, and the remaining 1/3 is in Sapa town, Lao Cai province. The outstanding feature of the passes of these northwestern mountains is that one side of the pass is an abyss, and the other side is a towering rocky mountain. Even though you feel it's dangerous, you can rest assured because this road has been upgraded, helping to reduce the number of traffic accidents for traffic, as long as you hold the steering wheel firmly and look closely, you can Cross the bends safely. When you conquer these majestic passes, the feeling will be great, like you are the winner. At the top of the pass, there are stops for you to rest and enjoy taking pictures of the beautiful scenery, clearly seeing the zigzag roads on the opposite side of the mountain, just like a snake slithering in the middle of the pass.
Passing these 2 legendary passes, there will be a small concrete road to turn into Y Ty commune. Starting with a steep slope, you will feel a bit overwhelmed because of its steepness. But at the end of that slope, you will be surprised by surprise because a completely different scene appears right in front of your eyes, terraced fields with golden ripe rice, alternating fields being grown by people. People harvest, in the distance a few clouds of smoke rose to the sky of those who burn rice straw after they have finished harvesting rice. Because here people cultivate based on the water source of the sky, which is rainwater, it is quite difficult to cultivate rice and crops, usually, the rice will not be able to grow, bloom, and ripen evenly, so each area will be one the scene different, creating pictures with many distinct colors and states. And that is also the unique feature of each place in this Northwest land.
We followed the concrete road, then to the asphalt roads, going uphill and downhill, rounding from mountain to mountain along the road around the mountainside. The deeper you go into the road, the more damaged it is because this road was built a long time ago, and because it is a traffic road in the commune, it has not been invested much in infrastructure. So it took us a long time for the distance from the main road to Y Ty. When we arrived it was around 3:00 PM. And fortunately that day the weather favored us with a beautiful sunny day, so we reached the place when it was still sunny in the afternoon, and left before it got dark.
In Y Ty, each season has a different beauty, especially in autumn, starting from the first days of September, this place is covered with the golden color of the ripe rice season. This is one of the most beautiful places to see ripe rice in the Northwest. Coming to Y Ty at this time, in addition to experiencing the winding roads catching through the high mountains, watching the terraced fields with ripe golden rice, you can also learn about the rhythm of life of the people. When we first arrived here, we were really surprised by the wonderful beauty of this land, because it is really much more beautiful than the pictures we have seen on the internet, because those photos are only taken some corners of that scene. Only when you stand there, witnessing it with your own eyes in real life, can you fully feel the perfect beauty that nature and man create for this land deep in the mountains like us. The terraced fields winding along the hillside, from low to high, are covered with a golden color, glowing in the afternoon sunlight. The scent of ripe rice is fragrant, covering a large space. If you are lucky, you can hunt the sea of clouds here, because Y Ty has an altitude of over 2000m, covered by rolling hills, so here every morning or evening, the clouds will swoop down. The feeling of being able to reach out and touch the floating clouds would be interesting and wonderful, wouldn't it?
Before the sun started to set, we moved out to Sapa town in time for the next journey, so we did not have the opportunity to stay longer than this place. But if you have the opportunity to come here, try to stay overnight here to be able to enjoy and admire all the wonderful beauty of this place. Because this is a very beautiful place, tourists and nature lovers, backpackers like us often come here a lot, especially in the ripe rice season, so homestays, motels, and hotels are also popular evolved to cater to the needs of tourists, so you don't have to worry about where to stay overnight. Another suggestion for you can ask permission from people to stay in their house, the people here are very friendly and kind, so they will not refuse you, but also welcome you in a thoughtful way warmly again. And I think it will also be a new and wonderful experience when you discover this Northwest land.
