I am not saying you were from Steem but I think that’s where that philosophy comes from.

If downvotes always existed on Steem I think the feedback in your comments would have been very different. This is pure speculation and we will never know for sure.

HIVE is social. So when people say things on this platform, other users will internalize at least some of that philosophy. Words from years ago matter and people will use it to justify on chain actions.

I think people need to lobby to end downvotes with their stake or stop calling them attacks. Calling downvotes an attack when anyone can do it seems harmful.

The harassment that goes on today because downvotes are framed as an attack is an obvious outcome to me but most people speak with emotion vs thinking about who their speech inspires.

Rarely do people who decline rewards on posts get downvoted. It happens but it is very rare.

Downvotes is a disagreement about rewards. I want rewards from that giveaway post you made to go to other things like the hive gaming community for example.

I think something the HIVE ecosystem needs is better education on how the reward pool works.

90%+ of the people I downvote have no idea how the reward pool works. If people have no idea how the reward pool works, it makes sense a lot of people end up doing things that gets them downvoted and they think it is an attack vs a disagreement of rewards.

The reality is, big stakeholders will always get more wiggle room on what they “can” do. It’s not “fair” in a utopian sense but it is fair in a human sense. Power distribution based on stake is a function of a stake weighted chain.

Most things in life follow the 80/20 rule. I would expect naturally overtime time 80% of the “power” will consolidate around 20% of the users.

Also, people with the most “skin in the game” usually get a louder voice and that might actually be more fair than the opposite.
