My mother was the only person who was not positive for covid. We were so happy because she had severe heart disease and asthma, so her void could be life-threatening.
But unfortunately, she tested positive after a few days. A day later, she also went to the same quarantine facility where we resided.
We were once again together, but our place was so hot for my mother, who had asthma, so we requested to transfer to another facility where they had a family room. Fortunately, they granted it.
There, we stayed in an air-conditioned room, but it was there when we felt very isolated. It was not allowed to go outside the room as new patients came in every day; this stopped people from getting infected repeatedly.
A few days later, we got the news that our neighbors also started getting positive for covid; lots of them were close friends of my parents, and a handful of them died at the hands of covid.
One friend of ours was a neighbor who always gave us food when they had an occasion. Unfortunately, he died in the hospital after suffering difficulty breathing while in the pulmonary ward, where most of the patients were covid positive.
Another was a friend of our grandmother. She was such a nice person to our grandmother as she helped her with household chores and would constantly give them food and medicine because my grandparents are old and tend to forget their pills.
My grandmother cried endlessly when she got the news; she felt bad that she could not do anything to prevent her from dying.
These deaths made me value life. Previously, I have always thought of dying to escape the pain brought upon by this world.
I was so sick of everything in life and felt that it would never get better in the future. Looking back at it now, I was so selfish.
I never thought about how dying would affect my parents and the people who love me.
Friends, classmates, teachers, and even my dog. My dog would never understand if I just never returned home all of a sudden.
To anyone suffering from depression and having suicidal thoughts, know that there are people out there who love and care for you. You are not alone in this fight.
I hope that this article also made you value life. We only live once; let's make the most out of it!
