As the only country not to have face-to-face classes in the world, it's safe to say that the Philippines has been hit hard by this pandemic, made worse by our incompetent government. We are still left stuck at home trying to learn as much as we can from the limited knowledge we can get from YouTube and Google.
I'm not saying that you can not get valuable information from the internet; I mean, I do it all the time. But it's just not the same as a professor teaching in front of the class.
This pandemic has taken a lot from me. I was supposed to go to college as a freshman last year, and I was so excited to go to another place, make new friends, and travel alone. But after quarantine protocols were put in place, I knew that would be impossible.
Studying engineering online is super hard. Honestly, I have not learned much from the two years of online classes. I don't have friends to check with or even have a good learning environment. I constantly deal with household chores, take care of my younger brother's modules, and deal with annoying internet problems.
College was supposed to give me a proper learning environment to consult with my friends, study in a quiet library, and sleep early in a boarding house.
But perhaps the worst thing covid has taken away from me was my freedom and independence. Going to college meant I could travel alone and learn valuable life skills so that I wouldn't have to rely on my parents for everything. But sad to say, that seems highly unlikely.
The only thing I could do now is to pray for the best and study 10 times more to become a qualified and competitive civil engineer in the future.
