IMO, we may never become technologically advanced enough to colonize the Moon and Mars because we'll be too busy trying not to go extinct first. But eventually, after a massive depopulation, humankind may settle into a somewhat sustainable civilization on Earth. I thought the movie, "Elysium" portrayed a plausible scenario for our future.
