What's up guys, dlive@dlive came up with a new campaign this week and one of it is the DLive survey and how to improve it. It's only open to those who have streamed with dlive@dlive so far.

As some of you may know, I've been streaming mostly with my alt alvinlau@alvinlau and occasionally on this account. A big thanks to those who came and commented on some of the streams! It feels lonely otherwise...

In total I've probably streamed 38 times (including a few times it didn't really work).

So the questions posed by dlive@dlive are these:

  • How do you decide a stream is good or not?

  • What do you think about DLive and how can DLive improve?

  • Why did you start streaming on DLive?

  • What are you streaming and how are you planning to improve your stream in the future?

Let's examine them one by one.

How do you decide a stream is good or not?

I would think a good stream is one that really draws you in, and it's not so much about how good the streamer is in gaming, but rather how entertaining he is. It can be the way he plays but mostly it's the way he engages with the commenters and the funny / awesome comments he makes during the stream. That would mean he would need a mic. How about webcams? Do you need to see his face? I don't think that's mandatory. I've followed one of the Fortnite streamers on Twitch and he never shows his face; he just comments and it's still super entertaining and popular.

So yeah, entertainment is the no.1 factor. Showing your face is not mandatory but it does help.

What do you think about DLive?

Prior to the new look on the website dlive.io, it felt super bare and clearly lacking at first. It's to be expected since the platform is so new. I bet Twitch was really bad in the beginning and it took a few years to perfect the platform.

I think there are two things that bother me the most on dlive@dlive.

One - Streams disappearing from the front page

Many streamers including myself have complained that our streams disappear from the front page of dlive.io, about an hour or so after starting the stream. I think the issue with that is even though you're streaming, others will not know that (unless you're actively promoting on Discord). It's kinda demotivating because no one might show up on your stream. Hopefully dlive@dlive will sort it out soon and we'll all be happy!

Two - The video resolution you can use on dlive@dlive

After watching streams on Twitch, I kinda gotten used to high res streams but it doesn't seem to work on DLive. If you stream with a high res output, it will probably freeze a lot for the viewers. Hopefully you guys can improve on that. :)

Other thoughts

I'm glad that dlive@dlive recently did an overhaul of the front page and it looks more decent and professional now. It also works well with mobile (since it's now mobile optimized). Recently dlive@dlive has had many new admins and community managers, so the Discord is better managed as well. Kudos for the improvement!

I would also love to be able to stream directly from my PS 4 to dlive@dlive, instead of using the Remote Play function. It's laggy for me with the Remote Play, so I can't imagine how bad it is for my viewers.

It would also be nice to have downloadable overlays maybe later in the future, since it's not the most important thing right now.

Other than that, it would be good for other streaming programs to be used other than OBS. Some find it smoother to use other programs or they're used to it from their Twitch streaming. Not that it bothers me.

Apart from all that's mentioned above, I did have some issues with uploading videos. It's not streaming I know, but I couldn't play some of the videos I uploaded even though the file format is the same and below 1 GB. Not sure what the issue is but definitely something could be done. It's still at an infancy stage and many improvements can be made. I tend to compare it with established platforms like Twitch and Youtube, but maybe it's harder to create a platform on a blockchain since blockchain itself is rather new. Anyways, just my suggestions but I can't solve it for you (since I can't even create a platform like this).

Why did you start streaming on DLive?

I couldn't stream at all previously with my old computer. As I recently bought a new computer that can support high specs gaming, I can finally do some streaming and DLive is actually the first platform I tried streaming. Sure, I've watched a lot of Twitch streams, but I never did it myself.

Another reason is of course the ability to play games and make some Steem. I mean, I play games anyway, so why not make some Steem doing so? I bet dlive@dlive has been life changing for many streamers including uhatgaming@uhatgaming, treflo@treflo and jumowa@jumowa. If you're gonna play games anyway, why not earn doing so?

What are you streaming and how are you planning to improve your stream in the future?

I'm usually streaming PUBG, Fortnite, CS:GO (PC) and Monster Hunter World (PS 4). It can be some other random stuff, but usually it's one of the 4 games. Do check out my streams if you love those games!

Not gonna lie, I'm so bad at streaming but I'm trying to be better. I recently (yesterday) got a mic so I may be trying it out. Still find it awkward to speak while playing. Mad respect for the professional streamers who are so natural at it.

In a nutshell

There's so much potential for dlive@dlive and hopefully with all of the suggestions given by all of us, the platform will only improve for the better.

Thanks for reading!
