Testing, testing. The best place to spray that tester is on pulse points where the most heat is emitted from the skin—think wrists and inside your elbows. The first waft will be the top notes, so spray at the start of your shopping trip and after you wander for an hour, smell it again to really get an idea of how the fragrance will sit on your skin. The inside of the knees is another hot spot— not so convenient for testing, but the perfect place to spritz your scent in the morning.
Step out of your comfort zone. Think you only really suit florals? Always stick with more watery scents? There’s no harm in trying something new. Think about smells you love, like coffee or cinnamoncronuts, and research scentswith those specific notes.
Try a men’s scent. Men’s and women’s fragrances use the same “families” of notes, which means you may find that men’s perfumes in the same categories as your trusty faves suit you just as well, and smell cool and unique. Or start with one of the better known unisex scents like (a) Calvin Klein.
Suss out single scents. If you’re after something a little different, look to “single” scents. Ironically, it’s unlikely that they are in fact just a one-note wonder, and are made up of a few different ones, but the scent outcome will be that of a single delicious smell.
Use an oil. Perfume oils can be more concentrated in scent, so a tiny dab can go a long way. Try a refreshing, fruity scent.
