I have spoken on another occasion about the name change of Mark Zuckerberg's companies, which has a clear direction endorsed by its own creator and is to point with all its strength to the Metaverse.
Backs to support this decision and the great change that this implies does not seem to be an inconvenience for this great company based in Menlo Park, California, specializing in social networks.
However, it is likely that the beginning will not be everything that good Mark dreamed of, one of his collaborators, perhaps not so well known, although of great importance within the organization that has been working on two projects related to cryptocurrencies, has announced leaving the company.
The reasons of course are not known, however, David Marcus, who is involved, has said that he will take a break and focus on studying other projects.
Marcus has a long career and has participated in important projects in PayPal, Messenger, and Facebook itself, currently working on the Novi and Diem projects. Novi is the new name to which the digital wallet originally called Calibra migrated, and Diem is the cryptocurrency that was called Libra in its early days. These two products were originally conceived to interoperate with WhatsApp and to be able to make transfers (including international ones) and payments between friends without charging bank fees.
As we all know, both projects are delayed, Diem was announced for its launch at the end of the year, but there is no news about it and everyone assumes that it will have a new postponement, the Novi purse does work, although only in the USA and Guatemala.
It is not known exactly if these projects are covered by the great Metaverse plan, although surely the news alone impacts the general perception, therefore, quickly, a replacement has been found, it will be a former CEO of Upwork, the independent work company with based in Santa Clara California, who has been appointed to take the reins of Novi and Diem.
I estimate that in a short time we will have news and finally we will see if this initiative goes on the market and in what way it is related to the Metaverse or if it will be discontinued.
