Quick heads up before anything else: SCC is not a sampler you load samples into. It is an effect plugin. You drop it on a drum bus, a break or a sample and it colours the sound with the grit of the old 12-bit hardware. If you want a playable sampler, this is not that. If you want that dusty golden era sound on stuff you already have, this is exactly that.
The hardware it is chasing is the E-mu SP-1200 from 1987, the 12-bit sampler that built hip hop and house. Producers used to sample records pitched up at 45 or 78 RPM and then pitch them back down in the SP-1200, and the crude converters and detune gave everything that warm, crunchy, slightly broken character you can spot a mile away. SCC recreates that flavour: 12-bit resolution, a 26 kHz sample rate with natural aliasing, band-limited filtering and gentle analog-style saturation. There are no knobs and no menus at all. You just drop it on a channel and it sounds like the golden era. It even has an animated cassette interface, and the reels spin while audio plays, which is a nice touch.
It is dead simple and it is genuinely free, no demo limits, no trial timer, no paid version waiting behind it. Low CPU, no latency, and it works in any DAW that supports VST3. The only real limits are that it is Windows 64-bit only, VST3 only, so Mac and Linux users are out of luck on this one.
Here is a video walking through what it does:
Download it free here:

How to install:
Windows: Grab it free from the Gumroad page, no payment needed. Unzip the download, copy the VST3 file into your VST3 folder, usually C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3, then rescan your plugins in your DAW and it will show up ready to use. It needs 64-bit Windows and a DAW that supports VST3.
Mac: Not supported, Windows only on this one.
Linux: Not supported either, Windows only.
No ROM or firmware files are needed at all, this one just works straight out of the box.
If your drums sound too clean and polite and you miss that rough 12-bit crunch, give this a spin. It costs nothing and it takes about a minute to set up.
