NJA just dropped Syncussion X, and it is an analog-style drum synth that takes its cues from the late-70s Pearl Syncussion SY-1, one of those cult boxes that shows up on more industrial and EBM records than people admit.
Two voices, each with eight modes: Single, FM, Dual, Dyn-Mix, FM+Noise, Noise, Noise Hit, and FM Click. The FM+Noise and FM Click modes are where it lives for me. You can coax out kicks that sound like a metal door getting kicked in, and hats that sizzle in that nasty broken way. Sweep up and down per voice, an LFO you can route to pitch or the filter, sample-and-hold clocked off the LFO, and tempo sync for all of it.
The sequencer goes deep too. 8, 16 or 32 steps with swing, per-step velocity, ratchets up to 4, pan and micro-timing, eight pattern banks with Mute A/B, and a momentary FILL button for slamming into the next section.
Then there is the per-channel glitch engine with RND and random-on-trigger, which mangles your hits in ways you did not plan. For industrial percussion that is basically a feature, not a bug. The master section gives you drive, a short room and a soft ceiling, with 2x or 4x oversampling if you want it cleaner, plus dual mono outputs for running each voice through its own distortion chain.
One honest caveat: it is macOS Apple Silicon only. No Windows, no Intel Macs. If you are on that side of the fence, this one is not for you.
Intro price is $24 with the code OPENING until October 19, then it goes to $30. For a drum synth this weird and this fun, that is pocket change.
