I concur. The fact that this was built into the game is just poor design, and poor player quality of life. The thought that someone would have to write a variable to define that must've made a singe dev hate their life for a single moment.

I used to be a "pro" video game journalist once upon a time. I burned a lot of bridges, found Steem (and migrated to Hive) and my mental health is about 10,000x better where I buy the games and review them honestly instead of having next month's income be dependant on the good graces of a video game publisher sampling the publication with review material.
