Have you read the Three Body Problem trilogy? It does some very interesting things with dimensions in later parts of the series. It is science fiction, but it is one of the more reflective pieces of fiction I've read.
It uses a parable to describe a painter who can trap people in a canvas, simply by painting them, resolving them down into 2 dimensions.
Then it takes this further by referring to "dimensional" strikes by forces in the universe which are capable of folding / unfolding the universe (and the unisverses within it) to fewer and fewer dimensions.
While it is certainly published as a fiction, the implications of dimensional collapse as an existential threat are well written and interesting.
