I want to upvote and support those who create and share their art and photography primarily. I will be doing this through the following communities:
I will also be supporting work by writers and reviewers who publish in the following communities
Finally, I'll do some curation in "new posts" outside of these communities, as well as people that I've come to support on an ongoing basis who publish in these categories.
If you get a downvote from me, I'll be leaving a comment along the lines of:
By downvoting this post, I return to the reward pool an increased share to content creators. Please read my content curation policy [link] if you disagree.
I will also include remarks about the content itself, and I will endeavour to always justify my downvote with a comment as to why I've taken the action I've taken.
I want content creators to get a fair slice of the pie.
I will downvote content of the following nature
This is simple to understand:
- Content exclusively about the platform that is rewarded more heavily than quality content of a general nature
This one is a bit more nuanced:
- Content that is obviously low effort, plagarism, and adds zero value where the content is covered by a different source that does not add substantial commentary or analysis of that news source (ie, regurgitating the same news of something that's already got a heavy reward)
eg: Blocktrades makes a post about a new feature on their service. Fourteen other bloggers make a post announcing the same thing, following Blocktrades announcement, that says "look what you can do on blocktrades now, the end"
This sort of content does not add value, unless it is offers in depth analysis of the move like, Blocktrades now sells x widget, these are the potential economic impacts, look at some modelling I've completed and the interesting dynamics this could bring to the market / token value etc.
Curation is a mix of support, abstaining, and actively providing feedback
Imagine you're putting together a show in an art gallery. This is an act of curation.
You'll have the following categories:
- Work you'll put on a wall. (This is an upvote from me)
This is the sort of stuff that you'd like others to see and engage with - something that adds value, is interesting, entertaining, or of cultural relevance.
- Work you'll not respond to (This will probably get a comment, and no upvote from me)
This is the sort of stuff that you'll look at, deem to not be suitable, and send out a batch e-mail to say "Thanks for your contribution, but there was a high quality of submissions, and yours is not of the standard I'm looking for currently."
- Terrible stuff that shouldn't be in the system or rewarded at all (This will get a downvote)
Work that actively brings into disrepute the whole point of existing in a model were content can be rewarded. As discussed above, regurgitating information available from a direct source without adding commentary, plagiarism, or content that shouldn't be on the front page.
Closing Remarks
Hive needs to be about content. We don't use Reddit, Instagram, Imgur, or other social / sharing networks to see charts about how much activity there is in certain communities, or discuss the past battle scars of meme-worthy events.
Sure, we're currently living in unprecedented times, amid a global Pandemic and a new blockchain for us to share our content.
Think of the journey as an outsider - do you want to have the front page of Hive clustered with fascinating stories, breathtaking art, deep analysis of world events, or content about the platform?
