This is quite a dark poem based on how I felt at the time. I was in 9th Grade (year 10 UK) Drama class and we were devising our examination piece. The theme was Dream Sequences. It just came to me. I had been through some teenage turmoil at the time and I had felt as though I wanted to commit suicide.

A girl, fobidden her privacy,
She has a dream, to conquer her fear...

She remembers so clearly,
That terrible night, when she
Fought and she struggled,
And she gave up the fight.

The violence proceeded and tore her apart,
She cried, tormented, broken,
Tears came from her heart.

Alone on a cliff, on the top,
Standing high.
The wind blows around and her visions arrive.

As she jumps to the ground,
Lights flash, black and white.

She glides like a bird, feeling so free,
Falling through clouds,
Heading straight to the sea.

Coming face to face with the darkness of death.
Her mind was ashamed.
Soul filled with guilt.
Now she leaves that behind.
With the memories spilled...

Teenage years can be difficult. I am so glad that I wrote this poem instead. This was my release.

As a bonus our performance did well and I think we even came in the top 5 at the Hong Kong Fringe Festival 1994.
