This Splinterlands Battle Challenge features my first Gold Foil Summoner from the new Soul Bound rewards. Having been quite lucky with my rewards receiving 5 BCX in my only Diamond Daily chest, I have spent some time finding the right battle to share to show just what impact Eternan Brune can have.

Being in Silver currently, I am able to use this card to its potential and what better time than the present to share my new, highest level summoner.

Ruleset

My project-1 (1).png

I think that Fire is the way to go here especially as I want to try out the new summoner I have. Death could be viable but I do not have the same range of options available to my deck.

rules-1.png

Weak Magic

Magic attacks hit Armor before reducing Health.

"Protect, Repair, Rust are useful in this ruleset. Beware the opponent could choose only Melee and Ranged monsters, so keep a tank with Shield." -Splintercards

Broken Arrows

Ranged attack Monsters may not be used in battles.

"A high HP first monster with Void ability will deal with both melee and magic. Give your tank a back up with a tank heal support. Using Thorns or Magic Reflect is also very useful in this rule set. Defend against either Magic or Melee attacks by using the right summoner and then use monsters' abilities to deal with the other attack type." - Splintercards

Line up:

Eternan Brune Level 4 Gold Foil

Eternan Brune L4 GF.png
Having picked this up, I have been looking for a ruleset that I feel works for this summoner. With the mana limit and Broken Arrows, I am not expecting any ranged attacks and with Weak Magic, I see the chance to use another of my recent Fire cards that should synergise well here.

By reducing the opponent's armour, I am hoping to get some good impact from Double Strikes and Magic attacks along with a great but slow Gladius card to complement my lineup.

Grum Flameblade Level 2 Gold Foil

Grum Flameblade_lv2_gold.png

I have this left over from my push for Diamond at the end of the season. Grum's got some real strengths and that is his Bloodlust ability alongside his Void Armour. At second level Grum gains Void which should nullify any real magical threat. The low speed is something I will to work with but with Bloodlust this should become less of an issue if I can keep Grum alive.

Chimney Wallstop Level 2

Chimney Wallstop L2.png

As soon as I put Eternan Brune, I knew I wanted to play Chimney Wallstop in second position. Knowing that it is another slow card, I wanted to ensure I gave Chimney enough time to get some damage in as the hit rate will be low but painful for the opponent. So to mitigate for this I will be using another new card in the backline to give this card some time. With Reach, I hope to double up with Grum and cause some serious damage in the frontline.

Sorriel The Bale Level 1

Sorriel The Bale L1.png

My new favourite Legendary card. With magic damage at premium in the Fire Deck, especially in Chaos, I felt this card's Double Strike with 2 damage would be pretty potent. Whilst playing a magic damage card in Weak Magic ruleset may not always be the best strategy, alongside Eternan Brune, I hope to synergise the abilities. I think this card is possibly my biggest risk but I think the complementary ability alongside the summoner will help bring this card to be an important part of the victory puzzle. With 5 health and two speed, this card should survive long enough to deal 4 damage for two to three turns -at least that is my thinking!

Scavo Hireling Level 3 Gold Foil

Scavo Hireling_lv3_gold.png

With both Grum Flameblade and Chimney Wallstop in the lineup, I felt they could both do with some armour regeneration. Again this is another card with no attack but I do think this will help to keep the Bloodlusters alive for a little while longer. With Idrii Fyre in the backline, I'd expect to get at least two turns of use from this card across my line up.

Tenyii Striker Level 2 Gold Foil

Tenyii Striker_lv2_gold.png

This is a real staple of many a good Fire deck. I was very pleased to purchase this card in Gold Foil for my main account as I dind it get used very often so I believe it has more than paid its dues so far. With 2 attack and 6 speed this card should survive long enough to put some damage out, especially with Idri Fyre behind it giving it some protection. At 3 speed it should hit most of its attacks in the battle so I think this is the right card and placement.

Iidri Fyre Level 1

Iidri Fire.png

By using Idrii Fyre, I hope to be able to take pressure of my front line and give them time to build up their speed through Bloodlust. While I am sacrificing an attacking slot, I feel this is an effective strategy to ensure my damage can propel me to victory. In addition, this is a new card I am yet to try from my End Of Season rewards. I have been watching a few of the more active content creators online and having seen this strategy I feel this will be the crucial piece in achieving victory.

Opposing Lineup:

Tarsa Level 4 Gold Foil

Tarsa_lv4_gold.png

At level 4, I'd expect this line up to be pretty juciy and quite potent. This is likely to be a close match up on the battlefield. The additional health and melee damage could pose a bit of a problem and I am just hoping my use of a Taunt will help me.

Seeing this card, I'd expect quite a bit of Opportunity and Sneak attack so perhaps Idrii Fyre won't last too long...

Living Lava Level 2 Gold Foil

Living Lava_lv2_gold.png

A really strong Untamed card. This was one of my must buys early on last year and it really has some strong attributes with that strong Shield ability, reducing melee damage. I would not be surprised to see a Disintegrator when I see this card. I am hoping that Sorriel The Bale will be the key in taking this card down quickly. Eternan Brune's reduce armour ability by 2 will probably help a lot here too.

Radiated Brute Level 4 Gold Foil

Radiated Brute_lv4_gold.png

I've come to enjoy this card as its three damage is excellent for a 5 mana card and alongside Tarsa this could be a real threat from second position. Hopefully Living Lava will be removed quickly enough to stop this being a problem. With 2 speed, it is very much on par with Chimney Wallstop for speed, so turn order could be a factor in taking it down quickly.

Disintegrator Level 4 Gold Foil

Disintegrator_lv4_gold.png

The card I expected to see and one I thought about using. Alongside Living Lava this could prove a bit of a test to get around. Taking this card off the battlefield is important for my lineup to work as efficiently as possible. With 2 damage and good health, alongside 2 speed it is a great card for the Demoralize ability. A real staple in a Melee match up. Perhaps I should have used this? Will Disintegrator come back to haunt me?

Serpentine Spy Level 3 Gold Foil

Serpentine Spy_lv3_gold.png

The Serpentine Spy is an excellent choice in a melee line up and particularly in a Tarsa selection as for 3 mana you get a great 2 base damage which increases to 3. The downside is the low health. With Opportunity

Tenyii Striker Level 4

Tenyii Striker_lv4.png

With higher damage than my own copy, this card is a threat to my lineup as beyond my Iidri Fyre there is a weakness. Taking this out quick will help. I expect my own Tenyii Striker to lose in this battle against this card if I can't keep Iidri alive.

Djinn Apprentice Level 4

Djinn Apprentice_lv4.png

At fourth level, the Djinn Apprentice has 3 magic damage which is outstanding for a 5 mana card. At 3 speed it is decently fast and with only 4 health and as the last card in their line up, I'd expect it to fall quickly after a couple of rounds due to my Tenyii Striker but I'd still expect it to certainly dish some pain out. The good news for me is that Grum Flameblade has Void and Void Armour both of which should work against this monster in particular.

Final Pre Battle Thoughts:

This is going to be incredibly close in my opinion. If I can get the Tenyii Striker and Radiated Brute out of the battle early, I think I can secure the victory. But all of this relies on my melee big hitters, Grum Flameblade and Chimney Wallstop hitting their targets.

The Battle:

(Link here)

Round 1:

ezgif.com-crop.gif

Iidri Fyre took the beating I expected in this round with Scavo Hireling kicking some extra armour back to Iidri, my backline stayed intact long enough for my front line to take down Living Lava. With Grum Flameblade starting to Bloodlust, his chances to hit have increased.

Round 2:

Sorriel The Bale got a really important Double Strike against the Radiated Brute which brought its health down low enough for for Grum Flameblade to land the final blow. An unfortunate loss of Iidri Fyre in this round has bought some time for the frontline to get a bit of Bloodlust going so hopefully that will enable victory.

Round 3:

Round 3.gif

Taking out the all important Disintegrator finally happened at the cost of both Tenyii Striker and Scavo Hireling. Grum Flameblade did activate another Bloodlust which will help to strengthen chances at victory in the following round. Especially with the Disintegrator out of the way, the frontline boys can really come out to play.

Round 4:

Round 4 gif.gif

An unfortunate miss here from Grum Flameblade prevented an additional Bloodlust from taking effect but Chimney Wallstop stepped in to back up its partner in the frontline with its now boosted melee damage without Disintegrator's demoralize ability. Sorriel The Bale put some good damage in through out the battle thus far and continued to barrage the opponents using the Double Stike ability.

Round 5:

Round 5 gif.gif

A quick finish in the 5th round with a powered up Grum Flameblade landing the killing blow against the Djinn Apprentice. A fairly unfair match up for the last pairing especially with Void and Void Armour on Grum who takes the first damage of the round before putting the Djinn Apprentice out of its misery.

FireDivideer.png

Post Battle Thoughts:

I am very happy I think the double Bloodlust with Reach was a pretty potent combination that worked incredibly well for me. Grum Flameblade's Void and Void Armour both kept damage at bay from one of their bigger damage threats and Scavo Hireling kept my Taunt monster alive just long enough to allow Bloodlust to begin. I don't think I would change anything about my lineup but perhaps a Yodin may have been the only way through for my opponent here?

FireDivideer.png

Eternan Brune: worth using?

I think this is a fantastic card and whilst situational, I think in the right mana cap and ruleset this can be a valuable addition to any Fire deck. Whilst it is not possible to purchase this card as it must be earned through daily reward chests or End of Season chests, it is well worth giving it a go!
