this is our weekly interview post. We want to sharpen your senses for HIVE musicians, that´s why we made it our goal to interview a new musician every week.
There are a tremendous amount of very talented musicians on our HIVE Blockchain. Too many of them are going unnoticed. We at HMVF and Blocktunes are here to change that. Our interview series will let you get a look behind the curtain of some of these artists. Their music, their process, and their goals. Let us come together to support the music of HIVE.
Of course these posts will also have the purpose of collecting funds for HMVF, to be able to create as many music videos for these awesome artists as possible. 🎵

This week´s musician is Newen X (@NewenX).
NewenX is one of the most favourite artists of Raven and also a very good friend. He is a multi-instrumentalist and top notch producer of various genres. You should definitely not miss out on listening to his music!
Well it’s not a super crazy story to be completely honest haha, my real name is Nehuen which is the same as Newen in the Mapuche language where it comes from, so I’ve always used it with a W. So to become an artist name I though “well, using just my name feels weird”, but not with the X!! So, that’s how it came about!
Oh man, that’s actually really hard for me to do, but one word would be EPIC, and don’t get me wrong, is not like I’m saying my music is epic, I mean this as a style. What does this mean you may ask, well I’ve always been inspired by Hollywood movies music, those orchestral freaking epic pieces of music that give you goosebumps and completely change the meaning or the power of what you are seeing on the screen. So you might usually find orchestral stuff in my songs but that depends on the style, because I make a lot of styles and that’s what makes explaining my sound super hard, my sound is what I feel at the moment, which can be whatever, and that’s the beauty of it.
Hans Zimmer is my biggest inspiration of all times, the music he makes is just out of this world.
I don’t always do songs using the same process, sometimes I start with drums, sometimes with main melody or background melody, chorus, etc. I don’t have a set method, I just sit down on the pc and let it flow. On some occasions though, I sit down on the pc with an idea already in my mind and start building up from that, where is a cool beat, rhythm, melody, etc. Imagine sitting around a bunch of legos and you start trying things putting them together here and there until you form something and you go like “oh this looks cool” and start building up from there. Of course that also depends on which style I’m making, but overall that’s my “method”.
I only hope that they take away what they need to take at the moment, and what I mean by this is that each person can feel a song in very different ways, maybe a song of mine makes a person happy when they were sad, maybe that person needed a break and my music helped, etc. I make music to express what I feel and share my love for music and I hope it makes people feel whatever they are looking to feel when searching for new music or going back to listen to one of my songs. As I have found music that has saved me from very dark moments, I hope someone gets that helping hand from my music as well, for whatever reason they need it, even if it is..just for fun!
Oh well, it gives us so many chances to spread our music, to share it however we want, even to put a price on it through NFTs. It just brings so many options to detach ourselves from big corporations that just want to exploit us for their benefit, we make our own way on the blockchain and no one can stop us or manipulate us. Besides, this is just starting and the fact that there are already games helping us promote our music while we play awesome games is just amazing. In my case it has also helped me meet people creating games on the Hive blockchain and I was invited to do the music for those games, that has been super amazing, being on Hive has literally changed my life forever!
If this is what you love, never stop trying no matter how hard it gets. I know this sounds a bit cliché but that doesn’t make it less true. I worked for over 15 years without ANY success at all with my music until one day it happened, I used to think I got lucky but eventually realized that’s bs, something finally happened because I never stopped trying, I kept going forward and I made things happen. BUT, don’t get me wrong, this doesn’t mean “keep making music and throw it wherever and something will happen eventually”, no, because THAT would be luck. What I did was to look for opportunities, get into communities, support other underground musicians, get in touch with them, make collabs, learn from others, spread your music but be active, do it wisely and from the heart, don’t just upload 100 songs everywhere hoping to hit, don’t wait for the hit, BE THE HIT! (just came up with that, sounds cool ain’t it?)
Well recently a new upcoming Hive game was announced in which I’m working on and it’s the biggest project I have ever worked on, not only because of the game itself but because of the quality and composition of the music and the work I have had to put in it, you can find the post of the project on PeakD if you search for @SurgentGaming. So yeah, I feel future holds great things for me as I have reached a key point in my life, I’m finally living from what I love, which is not only music but also games, and this is only the beginning!
