One of the wonderful things about Caracas is that, despite being a huge overpopulated and usually chaotic city, it has plenty of parks and green areas for nature lovers.
Parque del Este (as people know it) or Francisco de Miranda Park (its official name) is one of the biggest and most popular parks in the city. We had past by several times, but until today, had not had time or motivation to come (it is a bit far from us).
The motivation was our dear doctor, Mariflor, who was part of the organización of a special event (Internist society and Vargas Labs). She invited my girls to come and have fun with the bailoterapia (dance therapy).
So, we came. It started about eight, but arrived shortly after nine.
There were doctors checking some basic vitals and giving people health pointers next to the concha acústica, as we call this shell-shaped stage.
We greeted their cousin and I let them do their thing.
I went off to explore the park.
It is a pretty place, but anyone can tell it saw better times.
We have seen similar changes in most parks in our cities.
I was surprised to see the buzzards sharing with the ducks.
In some areas, they outnumber any other animal and one can only wonder why.
The water of the artificial lagoon did not look particularly appealing. The smell was not so good either.
This is one nice spot that serves as backyard for a cozy little restaurant. The orangish birds share the lagoon with white herons.
There are tons of macaws; they nest everywhere, but I could not get any good pictures (next time). They are súper fast and hide in the high foliage.
The park could use more flowers, but the few we saw were just great.
This peacock was missing all but one of his beautiful tail feathers. I don't want to think they were pulled out by "collectors", but that's a possibility 🤭

When the dancing ended, we said goodbye and took a bus back home.
We want to go back to this park with more time to explore the áreas we could not see today. It was a different and very fun Sunday!
