When King David was exceptionally old, he was unable to keep warm in any event, when they put covers over him. 2 So his chaperons said to him, "Let us search for a youthful virgin to serve the king and deal with him. She can lie adjacent to him so our ruler the king may keep warm."

Then they looked all through Israel for an excellent young lady and discovered Abishag, a Shunammite, and carried her to the king. 4 The lady was exceptionally wonderful; she dealt with the king and looked out for him, however the king had no sexual relations with her.

Now Adonijah, whose mother was Haggith, put himself forward and said, "I will be king." So he prepared chariots and horses[a], with fifty men to run in front of him. 6 (His dad had never reproached him by asking, "For what reason do you act as you do?" He was likewise exceptionally attractive and was brought into the world next after Absalom.)

Adonijah met with Joab child of Zeruiah and with Abiathar the cleric, and they gave him their help. 8 However Zadok the cleric, Benaiah child of Jehoiada, Nathan the prophet, Shimei and Rei and David's uncommon gatekeeper didn't join Adonijah.

Adonijah then, at that point forfeited sheep, cows and swelled calves at the Stone of Zoheleth close to En Rogel. He welcomed every one of his siblings, the king's children, and every one of the imperial authorities of Judah, 10 however he didn't welcome Nathan the prophet or Benaiah or the extraordinary watchman or his sibling Solomon.

Then Nathan asked Bathsheba, Solomon's mom, "Have you not heard that Adonijah, the child of Haggith, has become king, and our ruler David thinks nothing about it? 12 Now then, at that point, let me prompt you how you can save your own life and the existence of your child Solomon. 13 Go in to King David and say to him, 'My master the king, did you not vow to me your worker: "Without a doubt Solomon your child will be king after me, and he will sit on my seat"? Why then, at that point has Adonijah become king?' 14 While you are still there talking to the king, I will come in and add my assertion to what you have said."

So Bathsheba went to see the matured king in his room, where Abishag the Shunammite was going to him. 16 Bathsheba knelt, prostrating herself before the king.

"What is it you need?" the king inquired.

She said to him, "My master, you, at the end of the day, committed to me your worker by the Ruler your God: 'Solomon your child will be king after me, and he will sit on my seat.' 18 Yet presently Adonijah has become king, and you, my ruler the king, don't think about it. 19 He has forfeited incredible quantities of cows, stuffed calves, and sheep, and has welcomed every one of the king's children, Abiathar the cleric and Joab the commandant of the military, however he has not welcomed Solomon your worker. 20 My ruler the king, the eyes of all Israel are on you, to gain from you who will sit on the seat of my master the king after him. 21 In any case, when my ruler the king is let go with his precursors, I and my child Solomon will be treated as hoodlums."

While she was all the while speaking with the king, Nathan the prophet showed up. 23 And the king was told, "Nathan the prophet is here." So he went before the king and bowed with his face to the ground.

Nathan said, "Have you, my master the king, announced that Adonijah will be king after you, and that he will sit on your seat? 25 Today he has gone down and forfeited extraordinary quantities of steers, stuffed calves, and sheep. He has welcomed every one of the king's children, the officers of the military and Abiathar the cleric. The present moment they are eating and drinking with him and saying, 'Long live King Adonijah!' 26 However me your worker, and Zadok the minister, and Benaiah child of Jehoiada, and your worker Solomon he didn't welcome. 27 Is this something my master the king has managed without telling his workers who ought to sit on the seat of my ruler the king after him?"
