In recent times the tariff plan was increased, so we are left to choose between the lesser evils. Imagine overnight that was a hundred percent increase in the cost of data and calls and a fifty percent increase in the cost of SMS. Seriously, this bites, and I personally struggled for a while with this change before I later made up my mind to have a soft landing.
The worst of the whole thing is the cost to the community is more, and at the same time it doesn't last as usual. On my way to finding a soft landing, I tried two different networks, Airtel and MTN. For over ten years I used just MTN for both calls, data, and SMS, not that I didn't know of other networks, but it happened that that was the network I was just used to, and I found it so difficult to switch.
Because of this singular option, I misplaced all other networks in my possession. Just last year my husband encouraged me to get an Airtel line in case of emergency, which I did. So when the MTN network is fluctuating, I subscribe to my Airtel. For data subscriptions, Airtel is good, and it gives me the returns I seek, though I don't know of the different tariffs they have; I just sub a little, but when it comes to calls, Airtel charges moves like Air. In as much as I try to have some airtime reserve there, I don't make relaxed calls with them because just a hello and hi and my airtime is vanished.
But to be honest with you, these network providers are just milking us up and down. On a serious note, I just wish there was a way I could become a network provider too so I could also have a part of this juicy system of making money. Most of them are in the millions because it is difficult to see a home that doesn't have a smartphone or even a normal button phone. Everyone uses airtime; almost everyone who has a smartphone wants to connect to the world, so why not?
