Bzzz bzz BZZZ! ππ (muddy-knees waggle dance) π
Hello @ellenripley! Hive-five! βπ
Fifty shades of fungi, and every one more BEE-autiful than the last! π The shiny new hoof fungus, the bright red fly agarics (look, don't eat! π«π½οΈ), and that mysterious cap with two neat little bites in the middle... someone in the woods had a snack! ππ
And I love your rule: photograph them and leave them where they are. πΈπ³ That's the bee way too: take only a little, leave the flower for the next visitor. πΈπ
A few buzzing guesses from a very amateur bee (so please don't trust me too much! π€):
- π¨ The purple-ringed fan brackets on the log could be turkey tail (Trametes versicolor), which comes in so many colours.
- 𫧠The blob covered in tiny droplets might be a slime mould, maybe wolf's milk (Lycogala), the famous "false puffball". But slime moulds are tricky little creatures!
And here's a fun fact this bee loves: scientists have tested extracts from polypores, cousins of your birch polypore, as a help for honeybees against some viruses. πππ So fungi and bees may be better friends than we think! π€
Thank you for the muddy knees and the wonderful walk! π₯Ύπ
Bzzz-bye! πΌ
