Welcome to the Hive Acoustic Lounge!

Whether it’s an acoustic bass practicing a solo act - maybe looking for feedback, or maybe just wanting to document progress - or perhaps a saxophone performance filmed in front of a live coffehouse audience? …or possibly you’ve got a few minutes and you wanted to try something new on your Martin Backpacker - all performances are welcome here, any time.

  • Wanna do a song a day? Go ahead.
  • In a rush and dont have time to properlay tag or label? Do it.
  • Found an old acoustic performance of yours you’d like to reupload and share? Get in there baby, we love it!
  • Throwing down a quick cover on your lunch break or keeping track of a good line that popped into your head? SHOW US WHAT YOU GOT!!!

…This is that kind of place. Probably should have been called Acoustic Free-For-All honestly…

Personally, I like these tags, but you can do whatever works for you:

  • #fail …”this didn’t go at all the way I planned; either it has some redeeming qualities, or I’m looking for feedback…”
  • #improv …improvisation. Really rough, “let’s just try this and see how it goes…”
  • #practice …”I’ve attempted this a time or two, but I’m a ways off from mastery…”
  • #unplugged …essentially an online-only performance.
  • #liveaudience …videos of live performances in front of an audience

And lastly, we would have things i guess like #adviceneeded and #tipsandtricks. In many cases, the response to an adviceneeded post would be labelled as a tipsandtricks post.

Introducing the Community

Recently I started putting up acoustic videos from a new account which was aimed at building a portfolio of nothing but acoustic performances…something I can share with bars and venues when they say “you got any videos we can check out before we commit?”

Over the past few weeks I’ve been putting these videos in a swarm of different communities, but im never sure about the rules you know, mostly with tags and introductions and over-posting, etc. Also I noticed there wasn’t a community that was made for acoustic musicians, so this community has been created not only to make a specific home for all things acoustic, but also to give users a place to throw down acoustic performances in whatever way best with their style.

So you can join the community as a player of music, or just as a lover of music. Ask questions of musicians, make requests, the list goes on. If it pertains to acoustic music, its probably welcome here :)

Community Green Screen

While there are no restrictions on posting in the community, personally i like to keep track of when and where a particular song was recorded. This allows me to post the same song, from improv, to practice, to online performance and through to live audience without just saying, “I’m posting this song again…”

…anyway here is the green screen I’ve been using. The proportions aren’t quite right, so anyone able to tell me the right screen ratio for 3Speak, i will update this. You dont have to use it, its just here if you’d like to.

Community Moderators

Currently, the community has named rorykl@rorykl as first mod, but this account will not be doing much in the way of moderation. If you’re interested in being added as a moderator, let me know in the comments!
