Today, we will be looking at the ways to studying the bible briefly.

Do not let this book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you be prosperous and successful.

Joshua 1:8

Every product produced by the manufacturer always come with a written guide/manual for the user. This is to help intimate the user with the various functions and specific tasks that the particular products can perform. It also to help maximise the use of the product and possible troubleshooting techniques.

In the same vein is the bible to every believer who has been called form darkness into the shinning light of God. The bible is to server as a guide/manual to help believers live to their full potentials in fulfillment of God's plans and purpose for their lives.

The Bible

The bible is the name given to revelation of God to man. It is the account of God's action in the world and His purpose with all creation.

The bible consist of sixty-six different books written by many different writers under different circumstances. Among the writers were kings, tax collectors, fishermen, a physician, herdsmen, soldiers, legislators, priests, prophets and teachers of the law. It is the only complete book that has details to every issues of life from pre-creation, to creation, to redemption and also reveals the end of time.

The sixty - six books of the bible is divided into the Old Testament containing thirty - nine books and the New Testament containing twenty - seven books.

The Old Testament is divided into three parts;

  1. The Law of Moses: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Number, Deuteronomy

  2. The Prophets (Including the minor and major prophets): Joshua, Judges, 1&2 Samuel, 1&2 Kings, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lamentation, Ezekiel, Daniel, Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, Zechariah, Malachi

How then do we study the bible?

It is noteworthy to emphasize that the bible despite been written by various humans from varied backgrounds and from varied works of life has only one real author; and that is God. The bible is to be seen as a unit because it has only one purpose; which is the salvation of man.

Ways to Study

  1. Read the entire bible and find their messages.

  2. Study the lives of the people (Abraham, Joseph, Mosses, Joshua, Ruth, David, Elijah, Daniel, Esther, Jesus, Peter, Paul...)

  3. Study some theme like sin, discipleship, fear, anxiety, temptation.

  4. By studying chapter by chapter.

  5. By memorising important verses as you read.

  6. By taking notes and by making marks or signs on important verses that regularly meet your yearning for easy future references.

  7. By listening to the preaching and teaching of others via audio or print.

  8. Develop a result oriented reading plan.

Putting your bible under your pillow, in your car, or bag for protection without first having the word written in it imprinted in your hearts is a mere act of worldly fruitless rituals. For those that overcomes do so by the words of their mouth and not by the bible they carry.

It is from the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks, and not from the sizes and number of bibles you carry or place in your resting place. Meditate on God's words, enrich your hearts with His principles and promises and equip yourself with the sword of faith as you study the bible.

I pray and ask that the Lord reveals himself unto you as you study, learn and grow in the words of God. May God's words dwell richly in your heart and bring your you life of purpose and fulfillment in Jesus' name... (AMEN!)
