50 shades of gray
And while summer is just not about to come here in the Netherlands, it still looks grayer than gray every day, and brings more rain every day, I am on Twitter reading the crypto news of the day. Sometimes it is useful and brings me new insights, sometimes it is completely useless, and I could have spent my time differently. And sometimes it suddenly gives me an unexpected idea for a short blog! And the latter is the case today ...
They wouldn't get past the first date ...
I have the notifications on for some people because they usually bring useful tweets with maps that can help me in my crypto journey. And one of those notifications today tweeted me, “They wouldn't get past the first date. Just saying ”.
This naturally arouses curiosity in me. Let's be honest… I am and will always be a woman. And women are naturally curious. So I went to check out the original tweet and that was this next tweet.
Common interests are important
And this statement struck me for several things. In fact, my first thought was; "That is sad!". Of course, I understand that common interests in a relationship are important. Certainly! And yes, once you get sucked into crypto, it takes up a lot of your time. I have also experienced that myself. And yes, it is nice if you can discuss and share that with your partner. But at the same time there are so many more things that come into play in a relationship.
Bitcoin or ME ...
Honestly, the more I thought about it, the less I could understand this tweet. Because the foundations of love are, in my eyes, very different from whether someone understands the value of something or not. It is more important to me that my partner understands and supports ME. I seriously don't care whether he understands the value of Bitcoin or not, nor do I care whether he himself is in crypto. What does interest me is that he values and respects ME for WHO I am and WHAT I do or want to do.
Accepting each other
And then I'll just take my own relationship as an example. We have certainly had our ups and downs since we got together. In 2018/2019 it was even very close whether we had split up. And that would certainly have had a financial cause then… but never because I was involved with crypto, and he has no interest in it. Because that hasn't changed in all that time, I'm still working with crypto, and my partner still doesn't care much. He just can't show the interest and motivation for it because he has TOO many other things he wants to do that are more important to him. He is seriously not interested in Bitcoin. But he understands and accepts that I find it interesting. He does accept that I have my nose in the Bitcoin / crypto business and also accepts that if I want to do that well, it takes me time to do that.
Surprising insights
He listens to me when I say things, and just listening is enough. And what is so special about this, precisely because he is not interested in it and therefore does not work on it 24 hours a day, HE sometimes comes up with surprising insights from the things I tell.
There is life next to crypto
Another advantage is that he sometimes literally pulls me away from my PC because he also has interests that he would like to share with me. Fortunately, that means that I also have a life next to crypto. And I have to say that I really appreciate that, because there is of course more in life than just crypto. And precisely because crypto continues 24 hours a day, it is sometimes difficult to distance yourself from that. The fact that he can't lie awake about crypto means that he just takes me out of the crypto world by looking at his interests together. And that is also necessary, because if you set up a garden together, then it is also the intention that you maintain it together. Because he doesn't care about crypto, he means that I can also leave crypto for what it is, and do other things. That also gives me some peace of mind.
Is it important that someone doesn't understand the value of Bitcoin?
Another thing is… what difference does it make whether someone understands the value of something or not? Is it a worse person for that? Does someone change their character because they don't think the same about Bitcoin as you? I don't think so ... As long as they accept that it is important to you.
And that's one of the most important things in a relationship I think;
Understanding, accepting and supporting each other.
Not the thing WHAT I'm interested in is important for my partner, I am important for him and therefor he listens to my stories about crypto. So well, in my opinion this lady should be happy if she ever finds someone who wants to marry her because in my eyes this tweet outlines someone who has a fairly narrow vision about what love is. She may have been very well versed in Bitcoin, has a strong idea of the value of Bitcoin ... but has a narrow view of love. Because in love it's not about understanding ANYTHING. But about understanding, accepting and supporting EACH OTHER.
