I experienced the same thing, but in MOBA games. The symptoms were exactly the same: a feeling of alienation from other people and a tendency to immerse myself in the game alone.

P.S. I think about MMOs and MOBAs in the same way you do. I mean, they're great games if you can manage time and ignore toxic people. If you can't, your life will slip away, and you won't even realize how many years have passed.
