Put it this way: the early seasons of Bleach (up to the end of the Soul Society arc) are really good—even excellent—but it goes downhill with every subsequent arc. There are plenty of fights but no real plot; as a result (though that’s not the only reason), I find each successive battle increasingly stupid and "hollow"—devoid of emotion, and so on. Instead, I’d recommend FMA: Brotherhood—it absolutely blows everything else out of the water in terms of both story and animation. It’s on par with Avatar: The Last Airbender, if not even better.
